Popup, separate window, and side panel
Open your codes in the toolbar popup, a separate window, or the side panel, and keep a long list tidy with search, groups, and pins.
Popup, window, or side panel
The same screen opens in three ways. It has the same accounts and the same codes in each one.
| View | How it behaves | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Popup | Opens under the toolbar icon. It closes when you click elsewhere. | A quick copy of one code. This is the default. |
| Separate window | A small window that stays open, with a size and position it remembers. | Keeping codes next to another app or the browser. |
| Side panel | Sits beside the page and stays open while you work. | Keeping codes in view next to the site you sign in to. |
Open each one
Choose what the toolbar icon opens
- Select "Settings" (the gear) in the popup header.
- Select "Display · Sync".
- Under "Open as", choose "Popup", "Separate window", or "Side panel".
When you choose "Popup", a "Popup size" row appears with "Small", "Medium", and "Large".
Open the window from the popup
- Select the "Pop out" button in the header. The popup closes and the window opens.
- Or right-click the toolbar icon and select "Open in a separate window".
- Or assign a key to the "Open in a separate window" command in your browser's extension shortcut settings. It has no key by default.
The "Pop out" button is also in the side panel. It is hidden inside the window itself.
The separate window
- It starts at 400 × 640. Resize or move it, and Popout opens it there next time.
- Only one window exists. If it is already open, opening it again brings it to the front.
- If the saved spot is off-screen (for example, you unplugged a monitor), it opens without a saved position.
List-only view
In the window, select "Show list only" (the small button at the top right) to hide the header, search, and tips. Only names and codes remain. Select "Show full view" to go back. You can also turn it on in "Display · Sync" with "Separate window · Show list only". It does not apply to the popup or the side panel.
1.0.1 From version 1.0.1, in Firefox, moving the separate window also remembers its position.
The side panel and browser support
Choose "Side panel" under "Open as", then click the toolbar icon to open it.
- Chrome and Edge: the icon opens the browser's side panel.
- Firefox: the icon opens a sidebar.
- Safari on macOS: there is no side panel. Use the popup or the separate window.
If "Side panel" isn't listed under "Open as", your browser doesn't support it, and the popup is used instead.
Search and keyboard
- Open the list. The cursor is already in "Search".
- Type part of a service name, account name, group, or note. A "Results" header shows how many accounts match.
- Press ↑ or ↓ to select, Enter to copy the code, and Esc to clear the search.
Typing anywhere in the list moves you to "Search". Clicking a row also copies its code, and a "Copied" message appears.
Groups
Groups keep related accounts together, such as "Work". A group name can be up to 64 characters. Each account has one group.
- On the account row, select
⋯(or right-click) → "Edit". - Type a name in "Group" and select "Save".
Once an account has a group, a row of chips appears: "All" and one chip per group. Select a chip to show only that group.
1.0.1 From version 1.0.1, the popup shows accounts under group headers instead of chips. Each header has the group name and a count. Select it to fold or unfold the group. Accounts without a group are under "No group". In the account menu, "Group" lets you pick a group, create one with "New group" (type a "Group name"), or choose "Remove from group". While you search, the list is flat.
Order and important accounts
- Reorder: drag a row up or down. With keyboard focus on a row, press Alt+↑ or Alt+↓. Your order is kept. Copying a code or visiting a site does not move rows.
- Important: in the account's "Edit" screen, turn on "Mark as important". A ★ appears on the row ("Important account"). It does not change the order.
Compact view and hidden codes
In "Display · Sync", "View" has three choices: "Normal", "Compact", and "Hide codes". "Compact" tightens the rows. "Hide codes" shows names only; select a row to copy its code. You can also press Alt+Shift+H in the list to hide or show codes. Other options on this screen are "Theme", "Zoom", "Language", and "Show colored initials before accounts".
The account menu
Select ⋯ on a row, right-click it, or press Shift+F10. The menu offers:
- "Fill on this page" — see Fill codes into sign-in pages.
- "Copy next code" — for accounts with a timer.
- "Show QR" — to add the account on another device. With a password set, you enter it again first.
- "Share codes" — see Share codes.
- "Edit" and "Account history".
- "Delete" — moves the account to the trash after you confirm.
Account for the current site
When the page you are on matches an account, the row gets a "Fill" button. A match comes from the site addresses saved on the account or from where you used it before.
- In the popup, Popout looks at the tab you opened it from.
- In the window and the side panel, it asks "Let suggestions follow the tab you switch to?" Select "Allow" to follow your tabs, or "Dismiss".
- After you copy a code on a site that isn't saved for that account, you may see "Remember this account for example.com?". Select "Remember" or "No".
To stop suggestions, turn off "Suggest accounts for sites" under "Copying and privacy" in Settings. Turning it off also clears the site usage history.
Trash
"Delete" asks: "Move this account to trash? It will be permanently deleted after 30 days." Select "Move to trash".
- Select "Settings" → "Trash".
- Each account shows how many days are left, for example "29 days left". Select "Restore" to bring it back, or "Delete permanently".
- "Empty trash" removes everything in it for good.
